This conference is about understanding challenging behaviors in social communication disorders with an overview of behavior management techniques. Specific, user-friendly strategies and techniques for providing relevant social skills instruction to children and teens with ASD will be shared at this workshop. Enjoyable socialization methods are emphasized so individuals may experience success and desire to build skills. Social deficits affect life at home, school and eventually in the workplace.
Conference participants will learn both highly beneficial strategies that can be used across a variety of settings and routines; and practical and effective solutions to assist ‘typical’ peers, family members and professionals to become more understanding, accepting and engaging of those with social difficulties.

Dr. Jed Baker has been a clinical psychologist since 1992. He is a behavioral consultant for several New Jersey School systems, where he provides social skills training for students with pervasive developmental disorders and learning disabilities. He directs and supervises social skills training for students at Millburn Public Schools. In addition, he writes, lectures, and provides training across the country on the topic of social skills training for individuals with Aspergers Syndrome and related Pervasive Developmental Disorders. He has recently published both a manual on social skills training for children with Asperger Syndrome and a social skill picture book to aid in social skills training.
At his conferences Dr. Baker will give you the tools to handle challenging behaviors, prevent temper outbursts and increase social skills for all students. He shares ways to motivate both verbal and nonverbal students to willingly engage in social interactions.
He also outlines a comprehensive approach to skills training that includes instruction of students with autism and their peers. Skills include: joint attention, conversation, play, cooperative work, managing frustration, dating, and employment. The use of humor and engaging, fun activities is described and demonstrated throughout his dynamic presentation.
Dr. Baker earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New York Albany.
Jed Baker, Ph.D. is the director of the Social Skills Training Project, a private organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems. He also directs social skills training for Millburn Public Schools in New Jersey. He is on the professional advisory board of Autism Today, ASPEN, ANSWER, YAI, the Kelberman Center and several other autism organizations. In addition, he writes, lectures, and provides training internationally on the topic of social skills training and managing challenging behaviors.
He is an award winning author of five books, including Social Skills Training for Children and Adolescents with Aspergers Syndrome and Social Communication Problems; Preparing for Life: The Complete Handbook for the Transition to Adulthood for Those with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome; The Social Skills Picture Book; The Social Skills Picture Book for High School and Beyond; and No More Meltdowns: Positive Strategies for Managing and Preventing Out-of-Control Behavior. His work has also been featured on ABC World News, Nightline, the CBS Early Show, and the Discovery Health Channel.
